"What is sports medicine?"
Sports medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness, and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise.
Due to sports becoming a profession for professional athletes, doctors began to see patterns of injuries in athletes associated with the sports they were playing.
This led to new treatments coming out to keep players playing after what used to be a "career ending injury", and the development of exercises and treatments to help reduce the likelyhood and severity of future injuries in players.
Because of this, it's important as an athlete to have a doctor who practices sports medicine routinely on your side.

Being that we are the team doctors for American Leadership Academy North Gilbert, Perry High School, Chandler High School, Casteel High School, Maricopa Community College, and Arizona College Prep. You won't find a sport, or sports related injury we havent covered.
Your sports medicine team will assess your needs weather it's helping you with an injury, or training to boost your performance and protect against the most common injuries in your sport.

There are a variety of sports related injuries, some are career ending while others are not.
As sports have become more popular, and becoming a professional athlete has become a respected career. More resources are available to treat injuries and get players back on the field, when before those very same injuries may have been career ending.
There are still some career ending injuries, however with the right medical team behind you the number of these is less.
That's why having a good sports medicine team behind you or your athletes is important.

Depending on what the source of your pain is, you may need surgery. However this is not the first method of pain relief your treatment plan will have unless absolutely necessary.
There are non invasive pain relief options available, and in some cases physical therapy may be a viable option.
If all else fails and surgery is recomended you are in good hands, and will be in the same hands from start to finish through your treatment, surgery, and recovery.
